Damnmodern

Galeria Piwna 20/26 [Piwna 20/26 Gallery], Warsaw,
28 January 1989

The performance was an expression of the artist’s opposition to the intellectual and artistic trends generally described as postmodernism.
Warpechowski presented his own text and installation, comprising three parts:

1. Conceptual – a sculpture-stone with the word “Concert II” carved on it
2. Modernist – a form forged from iron, denoting a baton or a conductor’s hands
3. An oil painting depicting screaming faces (a woman in labour, a rock singer, a skull).

Additionally, the installation was accompanied by the artist’s tape-recorded shout.
After reading out his text the performer painted a big black square on his picture.
