The sooty-faced artist entered the room wearing a sheepskin coat. He drew a big finger directly on the wall, referring to the remains of an ancient statue of Nero. Next, Warpechowski installed three figures of “martyrs” on the floor, that is dolls attached to wooden sticks. He set fire to them, read a text criticising a ban introduced in France on the wearing of ostentatious religious symbols, and proposed making “Nero’s finger” a new symbol of the European Union.
